Switzerland
is one of the most popular tourist destinations from Liechtenstein as there
are no passport requirements and the currency is the same.
Nearby, sights include the towns of Werdenberg in Buchs (see picture, right), and Sargans. Both these towns are overlooked by castles that can be visited. The towns of the Rhine valley, and the mountains of cantons St. Gallen and Graubünden offer a wealth of sights and leisure activities in summer and winter.

The area of Toggenburg, opposite Schaan provides visitors with a spectacular drive from which it is possible to see the whole of Liechtenstein, and then into a hanging valley in the mountains made famous by the Alpine skiing pioneers from Britain. Resorts such as Alt St Johann, Wildhaus and Unterwasser still offer visitors hotel and restaurant facilities and access to the mountains.

South of Liechtenstein, between Balzers and Maienfeld, visitors can see the Heidi fountain (see picture, right), as the area near Maienfeld is the home of the fictional Swiss character, as Johanna Spyri came from the area. For fitter visitors, a walk up the mountain side leads to the Heidihof, or Heidi farmyard.
