Tourism attractions in nearby Germany

Although Liechtenstein does not border Germany directly, it only lies a short distance south of the German border, and has, as a result, many cultural links with the country.

In terms of tourism, Germany is not too far away and therefore an ideal day-trip destination. The towns and villages around the northern shore of Lake Constance are accessible by road and rail, and by boat from any other port on the lake.

Mainau island near Lindau in Switzerland

One of the main destinations on the lakeside is the town of Lindau which lies at the eastern end of the lake. One of the big attractions near Lindau is the garden island of Mainau which provides a wonderful display throughout the summer months, with the spectacular backdrop of the Alps and the lake.

Recent history also has a place for the lakeside towns, as Friedrichshafen was the home of the Zeppelin, and is still the home of the Zeppelin aircraft factory. There are airship trips available at certain times of the year.
