Football in the Principality of Liechtenstein
As in most European countries, football (soccer) is a national obsession, even though the pool of talent is small, limiting the possible success.
Having said this, the national team has grown in stature, achieving draws against such (relative) giants as the Republic of Ireland, and Portugal, and famous victories against Luxembourg, Moldova and San Marino amongst others.
Nationally, all the Liechtenstein teams compete in the Swiss football leagues, with FC Vaduz being the most successful, and highest ranked. The 2014-15 season saw the first season at the top Swiss league.
